4 weeks of Zanzibar

First of all sorry for not always write in English…

Now I’ve been here on Zanzibar for 3 weeks, starting on my last week now. I’ve had a good time here, but I’m really looking forward to get started my work and settle down in Dar. The only small little detail is that I don’t think I have a flat yet… Well, I’m keeping my fingers crossed and hope my employee in Dar is giving me a call the coming week to tell me they’ve found the perfect flat for me.

I’ve been in a wedding since last time, and I’ve celebrated my first Halloween. To start with the wedding - VERY different form a Norwegian wedding I have to say, I got invited to the first day of the wedding - the night the bride gets out of the house (room?) shes been in for the last week only been allowed to see by her mother and aunts.
While we were waiting for the bride and groom they served us bottles of water, coffee, some snack, a handkerchief with a greeting form the bride and groom, came around with water smelling of flowers, perfumed oils to put on the wrist of the hand , incense, and later a box of food. If the men got the same treatment? I wouldn’t know cause the men were having their own party, actually the men and women are separated for 2 out of 3 days of the weeding, well I guess the man have their own party, the only thing I know is that the men went to the mosque together the first day….

I’m still struggling with the Swahili… kidogo kidogo…. and I think my teacher is a bit frustrated over my slow (lack…?) of progress… However, I try, starting to be good to look as a question mark…

My first Halloween was great fun! A big party in some old chuck ruins just out of town - really creepy atmosphere!

I`m sorry that I don`t publish any pictures this time as well... I have some problems with uploading them. They will come eventually though....!

Hei Ellen!
